ESPN has been covering this (unadvertised) for hours straight. Not a single word has been about something other than this situation.
He came out and basically smiled and said, "Thanks so much guys. By guys you know I mean everybody, girls too. This means so much to me. Go study and get a good night's sleep. But don't forget about those victims. Be sure you pray for them." He then added something along the lines of "We still have work to do." He seemed to still be thinking about the team and was wishing them the very best. He then shouted, "We are..." and the crowded responded, "Penn State." The same chant then happened again. The crowd then began to yell, "Thank you so much, thank you." And he said, "No, thank you. Thank all of you." And he turned back and went inside the house. That's pretty much exactly what happened.
He did a great job, and I was very proud of him.
