    298 isn't even right. 98 to 2001 should be counted. In 98 the authorities were alerted and he was investigated. Emmert put 98 in there just to strip the title from Joe which is fine as it is as petty as it gets. Bowden couldn't beat Joe on the field and needed him dead to dance around. Hell even Finebaum who was calling Joe to retire a decade ago said Bowden has made of arse of himself with all of these interviews today. He should have just kept quiet, but he can have that total. Anyone under the age of 10 recognize will him in about 60 years. Great friends with SuePa and the Paterno's...yeah right.

    The fact that Emmert included 1998 to 2001 should be a sign to EVERYONE that these sanctions were a joke at best. Doubt he even read the entire Freeh report.

  • I don't understand the angst over vacating wins. Dude was practically comatose for the last five years and had completely delegated every head coach function anyway. Even without the vacating I'd say he wasn't responsible for all those wins.

    Again, the NCAA set precedent regarding vacating wins. Lack of judgment or a criminal behavior isn't a criteria for vacating wins. Knowingly playing ineligible players is the ONLY thing that is grounds for vacating wins.

  • The number is just a talking point. Count them 'officially', dont count them 'officially', whatever. All I know is that 409 times Penn State lined up head to head with an opponent deemed D1 caliber, where the result showing on the scoreboard showed PSU with more points, with all players being eligible so far as the coach(Joe) had knowledge. If one can refute that, well then, well done.

    Nobody can ever take away the wins, the battles on the field were won. It's more of the representation that is being taken away. The NCAA is corrupt as they come, but they had no choice here due to a PR nightmare.
