Amos

  • I think it would be wise to have him leaning the free safety position...just to give him flexibility and options.....if Drake sticks and Thomas keeps his nose clean the best secondary would be Amos at free safety Willis at strong safety and Morris and Thomas/Drake at the other corner.

I hope the staff is atleast looking at the option of Amos at safety, I know he has a minor injury but spring is the time to experiment.

Unfortunately, we seem to be lacking bodies both at CB and S. Best case scenario is that one of the true freshman can step up and play well this year (Daquan Davis, Jordan Lucas, Malik Golden, etc.).

It's possible that once Curtis Drake is more settled as a CB, they'll give Amos a look at S.

Yea - Obeng and Willis are the two safeties but we have NO scholarship players behind them....at corner we have 5 - Drake, Thomas, Wallace, Amos, Morris

Can't count on Thomas...and has Wallace shown anything at this point? I feel like there was one good play he made late in the season that he abruptly made up for by getting beaten for a TD.

agreed but still more scholly players at corner than safety - i am just saying have him practice at safety learn it...in case of an emergency, not necessarily move him there permannently, but having that option is nice.

  • I remember that play by Wallace... but it wasnt late in the season.. it was much earlier, probably ISU or something... turned his head around on one play in the corner, looked decent... and got beat on the exact same play the next time.

Normally I try not to be overly critical of kids in a public form but the only reason Wallace is on scholarship is Jelani Jenkins. So while he is technically on scholarship, his talent level doesn't equal that of a scholarship player IMO. If he has to play more than a few plays in the secondary we are in serious trouble. I would expect more out of true freshman like Lucas or Davis than I would from Wallace.

I agree with the original poster opinion that Amos should get a look at safety but with him loosing time at corner due to being nicked up, they may have the opportunity. If Drake adjusts to corner and Thomas is good to go academically come fall practice, hopefully they give Amos a look at least for depth purposes.

  • I really like Amos as a player, have since we signed him, just don't think corner is his best position when all is said and done.

  • Amos would be a serious hard hitting safety with cover skills. He played CB his Jr year and switched to Safety his natural position his Senior year. He layed the wood last year at CB and would definitely have WR's tip toeing across the middle of the field fearing decapitation. I hope his groin heals before spring practice is over.
