Allen Robinson Quote

  • From today - not exactly what we wanted to hear....I understand i think it is highly doubtful O'Brien leaves - but the more and more this drags on without a statement - my concern grows.

I just wish he would solidify things with his current team because it has to affect their thinking as well. Remember 5-6 weeks ago they asked AROB about going to another team and he was adamant about saying he wouldn't listen....now he seems totally open. I wonder what changed.

The collegian one sounds a little better.

WTF... He better put this shit to rest after the Wiscy game... He has recruiting to do. No more "Im thinking about the next week". He needs to think about how to get kids to stay and come here.

he has a press conference today, right?? should be very interesting

but you know what i mean about AROB, 6 weeks ago he was totally solid and PSU has only showcased him more...but now he is unsure - which tells me very slim chance he stays

  • Oh look, another "Bill O'Brien might be leaving" thread. Haven't seen one of these in a long time.

Yeah, definitely needs to sure up what the hell he is doing for recruiting purposes. I'd have to think that if he was thinking baout leaving, we'd know about it by now from recruits and their thoughts/opinions on PSU but the guys we have committed are as firm as can be still.

Something definitely needs to be said after the Wisky game on his decision to stay or not.

right - but it also is not helping current players and putting some doubts...of course he will tell recruits he is going to be there - but is def leaving the door open - which i don't care for.

I think he stays, and I think BOB stays. But this is not the way you want to see it go with only 1 week left. BOB needs to come out after Wiscy and say, without hesitation and with conviction, that he is NOT going anywhere. I understand what he was trying to say in the Indiana presser, but after the last game, the recruiting process starts immediate. That's reality with these sanctions. He needs to talk to the team and tell them that he is all in. He needs to get as much talent to stay as possible.

Name me the last coach that said "Hey I know I have a contract to coach here but I'm gonna look around in the off-season." Doesn't happen. Most coaches deny that they have any interest in another job until they're half way out the door. I'm starting to get more convinced that BOB may atleast look around after the season and see what's available. Not saying he's going to leave but all this uncertainty is starting to sway me alittle.

  • i didn't take this at all that ARob is thinking about leaving. I think he is unsure what BOB will be doing, but didn't get the feel that ARob is thinking

  • The only thing I see as a possible issue is Belton being unhappy and breaking up the SupaSix. Even then I'd be shocked if he left.

Edit: the first quote is poorly worded. Is ARob not sure what ARob is going to do or what BOB is going to do?

Yeah, I don't want our kids to start thinking like that though. That's when you see kids out the door... Uncertainty leads to kids leaving. The sanctions make it easy to leave... BOB needs to stop this nonsense immediately after Wiscy.

  • tough to get an exact feel as there is really no context, I think he is saying that he would not know what he would do if BOB left.

  • If O'Brien leaves PSU becomes a rudderless ship and we lose current players and recruits.

Of all the things that have happened, losing O'Brien would be the single biggest blow to PSU.

And now A-Rob is considering leaving? Amazing how easy it is for all these kids to "look around".

I guess not everyone has the same passion for PSU as I do. I didn't play, but loved being there and would never consider leaving. To each his own.

We can survive some player defections, which I definitely expect to happen, but if we lose O'Brien we're toast.

I agree. At first I thought he was just stonewalling the press, but if his team doesn't know, and it's giving them doubts, then BOB has to clarify immediately (at least with the team). If he doesn't, then I think there is reason for concern. Why not tell the team and put their doubts to rest.

What quote leads you to believe arob is totally open? I didn't get that based on the quote you posted. And I don't interpret that quote as anything more than he doesn't know about O'Brien, which really isn't that surprising. Can't imagine coach is giving any of this much thought yet.

I used to say there is no way he is leaving...now i think he is going to be fielding offers and seeing if there is one he likes. With not taking a firm stance it leaves the door open for more offers as well.

The only other reason you leave the door open by not making a statement is for contract negotiation...i sure hope that is the case - but i don't know anymore.

    Nittny65

  • Does anyone think that BOB has not discussed this with the team? I have a strong suspicion that he is treating the media the same way as Belichick, including giving the team talking points. BOB's been around the block a few times. He knows how uncertainty can affect a team. IMO, the team knows what's up with him and his commitment, one way or the other.

Take a look at the twitter thread. There is a link on coaches salary's and BOB is 33rd nationally and 6th in the Big 10. IMO, not enough for what he has to deal with. I'm hoping the drama is for contract negotiations. Still don't know why you would let your team have doubts, especialy with the buzzards getting ready to swirl.

Perception matters. Recruits read. This is not the time to get cute with the media. At all.

  • You guys are all going to die early. Quit worrying about some other team coming in and taking a one year coach with a 7-5 or 8-4 record and paying 10-18 million just to take him off our hands (not sure if the buyout is for the original contract length or the full 9 years). The chances of that happening are slim.

BOB is vying for a bump in pay. It's as simple as that.

well - Jacksonville is owned by a billionaire - if he wants BOB, $18 mill is nothing
