  • "facts are facts" but he isn't using the Freeh report to say what the facts are, lol.

  • Frazier's speech just made himself public enemy #1. What a horrible speech loitered with contradictions and blatant lies (such as The Board has NEVER made any decision based on the Freeh Report". He sounds good..but the content is just pathetic.

    This guy is pathetic

"The board can not and should not reinvestigate the freeh report.. would be damaging to the university"

That's like saying new DNA evidence would be damaging to a police department that arrested the wrong guy. WTH.

  • Lubrano doing a great job and receiving applause in using Freeh's own words about discussing the Report at Penn State at the appropriate time (at his press conference) and saying he should be invited to campus along with Thornburg, Clemente, et al. to discuss both reports and educate those at Penn State about their contents.

  • Someone needs to get his speech with transcription on YouTube...he's fighting an ultimately losing battle & there needs to be an easy to find record of this stupidity.

The funny thing is i bet that happens but not for what we want. I was talking to my vice president of student affairs and freeh is on the possible speakers list. He charges 20,000 per appearance. A guy who has been pretty much a total screw off can chage 20 grand to come to a university and speak, what a joke.

  • Broadhurst just gives the "shut up anyone who disagrees" order and another meeting goes by where the BOT refuses to allow any discussion. Ken even expanded on the word "coach" in the email by adding "our late coach"...creative.

  • All,

I just called the BoT number to express my dissatisfaction w/ Frazier's behavior. Interestingly they have asked everyone who has thoughts like mine to email the Director of Public Information for Penn State, Lisa Powers at lmr8@PSU.edu. If you've had enough of Frazier please send an email to Lisa indicating it's time (or well past time) for him to resign before he damages Penn State's public reputation even more.

    Just emailed Lisa:
As an alumnus, I would like to express my distaste for how Ken Frazier has represented my school.

I would propose that he resign and stop destroying whatever public image is left of my school.

It was all five, actually -- Mickey Shuler, Thomas Donchez, Daniel Wallace, Mark Battaglia and Philip LaPorta. Battaglia and LaPorta were the most pointed with their remarks.

Check my twitter page for quotes from them as well as from Frazier and Lubrano. I'm putting together a column for either tonight or tomorrow.

  • Email sent, I will be interested to see if there is a response. I added my note below for those interested.

    Good Afternoon,
I write to you today to express my disappointment regarding the actions of the Board of Trustees in general but specifically Mr. Frazier. I attended PSU 1982-1986, my wife is a graduate of the nursing school and my daughter is a freshman at University Park. We have closely watched the growth of the University over the last 30 years but also have read extensively the current state of affairs since November 2011.

I have been disappointed with the Board of Trustees reactionary stance regarding all situations that come up. The Board does not seem to be able or willing to get out in front of issues and lead versus react. Hence the Boards actions always seem to be on the defensive. From this position the reputation of the Board and more importantly the reputation of the University has suffered in the eyes of the public. As demonstrated by other Universities it is possible to better manage a bad PR position. Specifically, both Syracuse University and the University of Miami responded in a distinctly different way than our board. It is disappointing to me that the leaders of our University are unwilling, unable or unqualified to handle these types of crisis’.

Further, the Board I believe has handled the Freeh report totally wrong. Whether we agree or disagree with the content, the Board released the document without reading it or having a game plan to manage the media response. Just as the board was unprepared in November 2011, at least then the situation was unexpected. The Board knew the Freeh report was to be released but still took no effort to prepare. It is shocking how unprepared the Board of Trustees has been in dealing with each situation that has arisen since November 2011.

Mr. Frazier’s actions since the beginning of the crisis have not been impressive. His recent actions have been an embarrassment. I recently listened to the audio of an interaction with Mr. Frazier and another individual during which Mr. Frazier racially slighted a Caucasian individual. This is an action that is inexcusable for a person who represents our University. If Mr. Frazier has issues with those of another skin color than his, he minimally should not express them publically. As he has done so he should not be a representative of our University, there is no room for racism on our Board of Trustees.

I would suggest that Mr. Frazier is asked to step down from the Board of Trustees. Additionally, I suggest that the remaining Board not run for reelection to give an opportunity for new leadership to fill the current leaderless positions.

    Sincerely,
    Dan

  • Email sent:

I wanted to voice my absolute disgust and embarrassment with Kenneth Frazier's conduct over the past two days of Board of Trustees meetings. His insulting, demeaning and patronizing behavior and speech are embarrassing to me as an alum of this great university, not to mention his potentially racist undertones on Thursday depending on your interpretation. I cannot understand how he is allowed to speak so negligently on behalf of the university and alumni. Even if you disregard his multiple inaccurate statements, the contempt and disdain he shows towards anyone who may attempt to question his opinion is appalling. I would hope that corrective action is taken immediately.

  • Yeah, this blew my mind...especially because he said it over and over to dispute Paterno Report. He also repeatedly mentioned the "countless documents" that prove otherwise. What documents is he referring to? The vague and partial emails?

I can't believe that this Board still has the mindset that they have done nothing wrong and that nobody else knows what they are talking about. Frazier, in particular, continues to defend the actions by insinuating that those who are upset are only upset because they support Joe and are blinded by that position. Well, I do support Joe, or at least have granted him the benefit of the doubt until I see something concrete that proves his guilt. Why? Because he, unlike any of these pompous jackasses, made me proud to be a Penn Stater...on and OFF the field. It's also becoming blatantly obvious to me that not having Joe has put our BOT in a position where they are forced to be the face of our University and it has become an embarrassment. For five years I looked forward to the day Joe would finally let go....ironically now I wish more than ever he was still here to hide these clowns from the general public! Then again, at least this whole situation as flushed the rats out of the sewer and exposed people for who they really are

  • The only way to deal with ken is to take the issue to his workplace. PSFRS needs to organize public protests at Merck HQ. that is the only way to put pressure on him to resign.

  • Ms. Powers:

It is my understanding that you are our contact point with the Board. I am a proud member of the alumni association, and I have to say that Ken Frazier has embarrassed me more in the past few days than anyone else involved in this mess except the convicted criminal himself. Mr. Frazier's failure I grasp the shortcomings of the report he paid his associate (friend?) exorbitant sums to produce has damaged this university's reputation nearly beyond repair. His failure to comprehend as a positive for PSU the potential not guilty verdicts in favor of former administrators tells me he is incapable of performing the duties required by his office. In fact, I am forced - after watching his recent outbursts - to conclude that his only basis for supporting the Freeh report is his unwillingness to admit to his own mistake in spending millions of dollars on a flawed work of fiction. It is either that, or he is openly hostile to PSU, which is obviously contrary to his duties on the board.

As the last straw, his frank racism is disturbing. It is time for him to leave before he does more damage to my alma mater's reputation.

  • I may be asking a dumb question so be nice to me but what does Frazier get out of being a board member. Everything he seems to be doing can only hurt his "real world" career. There has to be some benefit, doesn't there?

    Vincent Vega

  • Maybe this was also discussed elsewhere but, it was a jaw dropper for me when Frazier spoke of the 1998 incident like it was 2001...confusing the two. I half believe Emmert may have received a summary of the Freeh report from Frazier. headslap
