All-purpose sanctions/NCAA/BOT thread

  • I'm seeing a lot of new threads on very similar topics pop up on the board recently. In the interest of providing a place where we can discuss our old pals at the NCAA and on the BOT, or other similar non-football topics, without cluttering up the board, I'd ask that you limit them to this thread, at least for a little while.

Feel free to post relevant links, get things off your chest -- it's your baby. Just keep it here for now, and we'll see how it goes.

    Thanks.

    Good Idea.

Here are some of the Jay Bilas tweets referenced earlier for those interested. I agree with Bilas how did the letter on behalf of Shapiro escape the investigation? Oh I know, it was a sham!!

What college ADs are pulling down: http://usat.ly/15yg9hR Remember, NCAA doesn't have any money (after they pay themselves, of course).

    Jay Bilas ‏@JayBilas
Still stunned by this, and its exclusion from NCAA report: http://usat.ly/WvzQXa NCAA has not commented. So much for transparency.

That really is damning. Miami should have a field day with this. I'm not sure how you can take anything that Shapiro said as valid at this point. Far too much collusion was involved.

    getmyjive11

  • I think the fact that it was excluded from their report is really the damning part of this. I mean, how can anything in the report be taken seriously if something like this was excluded?

btw, this quote is great. "incompetent regulatory institution" sounds about right....

Perez told the AP last month that "had I realized I was dealing with, what is in my opinion ... such an incompetent regulatory institution, I would have never allowed Mr. Shapiro to have had any type of contact with the NCAA -- period."

You get what you pay for, literally, when you do one of these investigations.

Oh, here is 6.5 million dollars. We want to know what went wrong but really we want you to not find anything on us and just blame the dead guy over there. Do that and 6.5 million is yours.

Yeah, I read that last night and had a good "SNL-Jeopardy-Sean Connery-esque" belly laugh. What a Mickey Mouse organization they have there.

  • Joyner is only really acting as the interim AD. I have a feeling the new AD will make a lot more than that.

  • NCAA contradicts itself in PA lawsuits.

    cliffs:

In the motion to dismiss PA vs NCAA, NCAA argues that the fine is not a restraint of trade or commerce.
Two weeks later, in its motion against the PA law requiring that the fine stay in PA, NCAA argues that the law discriminates against interstate commerce.

Let that sink in for a second. The NCAA, ladies and gentlemen!

The judge will let him know that, when the case goes forward and it's time for discovery...

  • Here's another article about the Spanier/Curley?Shultz trials. The professor that they quote in the article is actually one of the professors I have at school. I'm gonna ask him next week what he thinks about the case. I'll let you guys know what he says.

Cases against Penn State's Graham Spanier, Tim Curley and Gary Schultz may see action after long wait

Key preliminary rulings should be out soon. But odds are any trial is still months away.

  • Stephanie Nolan Deviney has a BOT re-election facebook page. She's getting killed by people who are demanding that she step down, however some of the comments she's made are interesting. She's stated that the BOT has not accepted the Freeh Report or the Consent Decree. I'm not sure if it means anything in the grand scheme of things but it's atleast interesting to hear from her.

Ah yes, the two meaningless lifelines that these bloodsuckers cling to for reelection.

Did they formally accept those two things? I guess not. Are those two things still hammering us? Um, yeah. That's like saying, "hey guys, I'm getting beaten with a two by four, but I didn't formally accept it, so it really isn't happening!" They aren't doing jacksquat about either of those things. In fact, if I remember correctly, shortly after the Freeh Report came out they did a straw poll and it would have been accepted by most everyone on the BOT.
