Alex Anzalone commits to Ohio State

  • psuproud said...

Perfectly fine with him going to OSU, I thought he was good but is a little overrated based on his rankings.

Overrated, really? Anzalone has 32 offers, many of which are from high profile college programs. In addition to OSU and PSU, he has offers from the following:

Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida St., Georgia, Michigan, Michigan St., Notre Dame, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee and USC

Anzalone has one of the most impressive list of offers in America. In any event, given all of the bad news at PSU, their recruiting class is coming along well. They have landed some studs.

Watch his tape, he is not going to be a LB in any system that is not a 3-4.

US News rankings are worthless, especially if we're talking graduate programs. Nothing more than a recruiting tool, where schools pay the ranking organization for their placement.

My point is if a business school is one of his key priorities, OSU is not chopped liver. All the Big 10 schools rank solid across the board academically.

Obviously, Meyer and many other head coaches think highly of him. The talk is Meyer wants him to play LB, but it hasn't been decided if he'll play on the inside or the outside. Others think Meyer might look at trying him out at H Back. This is a rumor, nothing has been confirmed yet.

H-back makes the most sense and alot of schools wanted him as H-back, IMO opinion he will never play a down of LB at OSU, he will either be an H-back or a WDE.

OSU Business school ranked #25. PSU #44. Per US News.

Link? I have a feeling that's grad school. Not undergrad. And if you're going to go for an MBA (or any graduate degree), it's better to have it from a different school than your undergrad.

    14th overall
    6th among public universities

5th - Supply Chain Management and Logistics

6th - Production and Operations Management

    10th - Accounting

    11th - Finance

    19th - Marketing

The Fisher College of Business UG program is one of the best in the world. This discussion is silly. psu has a great UG B-School also.

You don't have a point. Those rankings don't mean anything. Whether or not an academic program is "good" or "bad" is entirely subjective, and dependent upon the needs and wants of a prospective student. I got into UC-Berkeley for grad school, a highly competitive and highly ranked program, but hated it, and decided on a much lower ranked program at Oregon State, which I loved.

These rankings only mean something to people who don't understand academia. That is to say, they mean nothing. To draw a parallel all of us here are familiar with, they are like star rankings. A vague judge of quality ? Sure. Do they predict success ? Not really.

I don't think you can say they are totally subjective. A school like Harvard or Yale is a highly ranked school for a reason.

  • Can we please let this thread go and get locked up.
We've seen that Alex has a great family and support system. The BA/MBA format of OSU's honors college was a great opportunity for him. That is what sold him. He made a decision that he feels is best for him and thankfully it wasn't because "Oh man Coach Urbz won some ringz 'swagg.'" He is a good kid with a great family and made a good decision for himself.

I honestly wish him the best of luck at OSU and lots of success except when he plays the Nittany Lions once a year. Now let's lock this up, and all move on with our lives.

Sure there is a reason. There is a reason for everything. But in this case the reason has absolutely nothing to do with some inherint quality of an academic program. Schools like Harvard and Yale are successful in the way that they are due to their established nature. Harvard is perceived as the best school in the world, and therefore receive the most competitive applications. They therefore accept only the most exceptional students. Those exceptional students do extremely well almost entirely due to their own ability, and often the university's most famous products are dropouts, which further proves this point. Those successful students add to the profile of the university which propels the perception of those universities as being the best, leading to the continued process of being able to act most selectively. It's a postive feedback loop of crap.

There is NOTHING about the instruction at a school like Stanford or Harvard or Yale which makes them inherently superior. Nothing. In fact, it's probably worse than at most state schools. I've attended a few universities in my long academic journey, and the only rough correlation I experienced was that the worse the reputation of the program or university, the better the instruction.

Many of you are being ridiculous. So often there are clear examples of kids jumping at the flash and big name coaches and universities. I just don't see that as the main factor here. I'm sure that UM and the successes at OSU had a lot to do with his decision but I also believed his brothers when they stated the coaching staffs were not going to be the deciding factor. This one came down to the academic situation...hands down. It doesn't make OSU a better school than PSU, or Standford or anywhere. He simply was offered a very good opportunity to get his MBA in a short time at OSU while being in the honors college. That was not going to happen at PSU or probably anywhere else. The kid made his decision based on academics and clearly did his due diligence at each school he visited. I for one am proud of the kid for doing what we preach here...putting academics first.

If he was putting academics first, he goes to Stanford. This wasn't about academics whatsoever.

  • Damn... A lof of you guys are worse then the guys over at Bucknuts! Trashing players when they don't pick your school lol... I know you may feel scorned but that kid was in no way rude or disrespectful about his recruitment. And if you feel that bent out of shape about 17 year old you dont even know and the school he chose to go to, you need help. It's not that deep... end of the day, these kids go to schools that THEY feel comfortable going to. They don't do what FANS want them to do, they do what they and their families think is best. Get a grip...

This is a PSU board. If you don't like the material or discussion, don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. It's not hard to understand. There is alot of BS on your board pertaining to Ped State; derrogatory stuff about Paterno and stuff when Breneman verballed to PSU, so if you don't like it - leave.

And you need help for coming onto a PSU board and lecturing us about what can and cant do.

No need to be over here. Stay over there and trash recruits like Webb when they dont bow to the almighty Urban. (BTW I did not trash AA and wished him and his families well and that the option of the Honors College at OSU is tough to pass up).

    Get a grip...

Also, you guys need a lot of help. Making light of and jokes of what happened and wishing more bad things would come out (as if it is not already terrible) just so our fball program gets hurt is the definition of serious problems from mental to character and so forth.
