You almost have to feel sorry for them. They finally get a good break to hang their hat on....and the ACC falls apart around them. If the dominoes start falling as they look like they might, they could very well be stuck in the Big East 2.0, only weaker without WVU (their main rival), Cincy, Rutgers, or Louisville. Unless they move quickly, their football program cold really be hurting in a few years...even by their standards.

I never feel sorry for Pitt esp. after how their fans acted after the past year. I'm still not convinced that the ACC will fall apart. It will depend on how much it costs Maryland to get out of the ACC. If they can get out cheaply it could be trouble for the rest of the conference. The Big 12 is actually in a worse position to be poached considering that they are literally surrounded by other conferences that have already raided them. It will come down to what FSU, Clemson, and the schools in VA/NC do. If the SEC grabs say VT and NC State then yes the ACC will likely fall apart. If the Pac-12 decides to poach schools from the Big 12, that conference could fall apart. The next year or so could be very interesting.

I posted this in another thread JT$. I agree with A LOT of what you said.
Psu2013 and I were talking earlier about this. The ACC and the Big XII cannot both survive. Four big boy, three locked in (PAC, SEC, and us). Expect the PAC to move within six months, they won't want to be left behind in the race to 14. The SEC will instigate 16, and we and the PAC will follow. I bet 12-24 months this will be done. SEC wants to move north some more, same region (NC and VA) we want into. I firmly believe we are only looking for one more team.
The big deal is who moves first between the Big XII and ACC. The PAC wants OU and Okie State, and they would leave Imo. Texas is wanted as well by them but they are a WC right now. I think FSU and Clemson could bolt if the Big XII was proactive. Miami may go with in that case. I think parts of the ACC may get left back with the Big East leftovers.
But if PAC moves quick and then ACC counters, the Big XII could fall apart in a moment.

I agree with a lot of this as well. I think FSU and Clemson will have their bags packed if the ACC does indeed take UCONN. They can only stick around and watch football die for so long before they will leave. I think the biggest factor in how quickly they leave is how cheaply Maryland gets off. There is a $50 million buyout in place, but it looks like Maryland's gonna challenge it. If the precedent for a cheap exit is set, I think the defections begin.
But either way I think you haven't seen the last of the ACC poaching. I think you either see SEC take NCST/VT to expand north, or B1G take UNC/UVA to expand south. I do get the sense that the B1G move would be less likely, as it seems like Delaney's end game here is to smoke ND out of their new deal and into the Big Ten (they probably fit here better than in any of the other conferences). I think we sit at 14 for a while until the ACC starts to crumble and we reach out to ND with an offer to pair up with UVA to join us before they are shut out from all the "big boy" conferences. It should be fun to watch this play out.

ACC: Who replaces the Terps!?
