  • I was just wondering if this could ever come to fruition. I mean, if there was a lot of money involved (which they have shown us as the main reason for expansion), like each school ends up getting like 100 mil a year (just a random hypothetical number), do you think this could happen? These are my wish list of schools that I hope the B1G goes for if it actually happens sometime. (Just play along):

    Maryland & Rutgers (Already added)
    UVA & UNC
Texas & Texas A&M (Hopefully Texas agrees to play fair and we steal TA&M from the SEC)
ND & Mizz (ND realizes that too much money is at stake and the B1G will become very powerful, so they jump in)

If this happens, then we can make 4 PODS of 5 schools each. My PODS goes like this:

POD-1: PSU, Maryland, Rutgers, UVA, UNC
POD-2: OSU, Michigan, MSU, Indiana, Purdue (Cant separate OSU & Mich)
POD-3: ND, Wisc, Iowa, NW, Minn
POD-4: Tex, TA&M, Neb, Mizz, Illinois (Pack the teams from the B12 together…… and illinois)

So, say in year 1 and year 2, POD-1 plays POD-2 (home and away). Then in years 3 and 4, POD-1 plays POD-3, so on and so forth. That means 9 conference games and 3 OOC games. So essentially this way, each school gets to play every other school once every 3 years. Which is not as bad as I thought it could be. Also, once TV rights are negotiated, just imagine the deal every school will be getting out of it, if hugee markets are added.

Just for entertainment purposes, which all schools would you add, to which POD, and why? And no need to say stuff like ‘no way this will ever happen’ and stuff like that. I know it wont, but its fun to think/debate about it.
(Sorry for the long message. But play along and be nice!)

  • OK, but no A&M, I think Texas, and OK to big, UVA, UNC, and Mizzu. I like the pods, it works for playing everyone but then the pods need to be groupped for a conference championship game. So Pod 1 and 3 and "and 4 give reasonable breakup of traditional powers.

  • Yes, sorry forgot to mention that. So, when you group POD-1 and POD-2 together, their champion will play the champion of POD-3 & POD-4 group for the Conference Championship Game.

Also locopsu, there is absolutely no way OK gets added into the B1G. They are not part of the AAU. All the schools that i mentioned are not only part of the AAU, but also regarded highly for their academics (which will sit well with all the B1G presidents). A&M is part of the AAU, and they bring a lot to the table, that is why i added them.

  • No way that aTm would follow Texas. It just isn't going to happen.

Yea, i know. And that sucks, because they would have been a good addition to the conference. So, who would you take instead of Texas A&M..?

Well, just to be clear, I don't think Texas is coming either. If they go anywhere, I think it will be to the PAC 12, but that is doubtful now that their league is seemingly stabilized.

The six teams the Big Ten will get will come from the East. Obviously, they want ND, but that isn't a given even if the ACC blows up. ND HATES the Big Ten (for whatever reason... I'm sure it has something to do with remaining "special" in that region). Just by looking at what the Big Ten wants (markets and academics with an emphisis on AAU status), I think you will see the following:

    -UVA
    -UNC
-Duke (as a tag along to UNC)
    -GT
    -Miami
    -ND/Cuse/BC (pick one)

All but ND/Cuse/BC and Miami are AAU members. All open up new markets up and down the East Coast. The Big Ten doesn't want anymore football powers outside of ND. They are happy with OSU/Mich/Neb/PSU. This is all about TV money and academic prestige.

  • I really with the NCAA would stop all this conference bull shit. The NCAA needs to stop being run by the conferences and start being run by a football governing body(not the NCAA). I would love for the top schools (BCS schools, at least higher level BCS schools) to break away from the NCAA and form their own league. Then do things that make sense and run the league like a standard sports league. Get a commissioner, split the TV money between ALL schools. Set up regional conferences, don't give important teams in a region "veto power." Make a playoff at the end. Get rid of the awful teams that have no business being in the highest football league. Stop letting schools schedule their own games. Play one exhibition against a non BCS team and never let a BCS team play a 1AA team again. This conference stuff is just bullshit. Selfish people are running the show doing what's best for them. Imagine if it worked this way in any other sport. Teams could schedule their own games and choose their own league and tell others they couldn't be in their league. Florida, Florida State and Miami should be in the same Conference. Same with Notre Dame, They should be in the B1G. Texas and aTm should always play each other. And 1/2 of college football teams suck so get rid of them.

Eh.. be careful what you wish for... that would likely end with us being in the Big East. I want some regional conference foes just as much as many PSU fans do, but what if we were stuck in this conference?

    -PSU
    -Temple
    -Cuse
    -UConn
    -Rutgers
    -Pitt
    -BC
    -Maryland
    -UVA
    -VT
    -UNC
    -Wake
    -Duke
    -UNC
    -NC St
    -ECU

That would be terrible. Worst conference ever.

In my scenario ECU, Temple, Possibly Duke and Wake wouldn't make my super league.

    North East Conference
Penn State, Syracuse, Pitt, WVU, UMD, Rutgers, BC, UCONN

    Appalachian Conference
Virginia, UNC, NCState, VT, Cinci, Louisville, Kentucky, Duke/Wake

    South East
Georgia, GT, Florida, Florida State, Miami, USF, USCe, Clemson

    Southern
Mississippi, Mississippi State, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Tennessee, Vanderbilt

    South West
Texas, aTm, Oklahoma, OSU, Baylor, TTU, TCU, Houston

    Great Lakes
OSU, Mich, MSU, Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Notre Dame, Northwestern

    Plains
Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Minn.

    North West
Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, Utah, Colorado, BYU, Boise

    West
USC, UCLA, Arizona, ASU, CAL, Stanford, (need 2 more, SDSU, Fresno, Nevada, New Mexico?)

Rough Draft of why my scenario would look like. End it with a 16 team playoff, 9 division winners and 7 wildcards.

yeah the North east division looks awful. But what do you want? Those are the schools in the North East. Penn State is in the North East. Never said the model was going to be fair to PSU. The alternative, what we are having now, are schools like PSU and Pitt in separate conferences. And pitt and WVU in separate conferences. It just doesn't make any sense. So yeah, PSU gets stiffed a little on this but overall in college football I'd much rather see this model than the nonsense going on now.

Yeah, I know, but that's the point. We are better off in today's world. All I care about is us.

I get your point too. I would rather play the dogshit of an Northeast schedule than playing Indiana. Illinois Northwestern and Prudue every year. Sure we get a OSU and Neb in Beaver once rotating years, but most of the B1G schedule we get is garbage. Fans would get pumped for more regional games even if they are Pitt, WVU, UMD and Rutgers. JMO though.

Yeah, but now we are going to get RU and MD every year anyways to go along with (if the East/West model is adopted) Michigan, OSU and MSU plus Nebby if they keep the rivalry x-over game. Can't ask for much more than that.

That east/west model is a disaster. Has Big 12 south vs. north written all over it. Especially if wisconsin flames out on their HC choice and goes colorado. I like that the east has big time teams which means big time games but wow that schedule will be brutal, especially for a UMD type of team.
