2nd GA?

  • Sean ( or anyone else),
Have you confirmed who the second GA will be with the team?
I know we discussed Zak Etheridge, and I believe it was Zak, standing next to BOB with the blackboard, signalling in plays on Saturday.
Just wasn't sure if you had confirmed the other GA?

  • Just an FYI, the NCAA will allow teams to have up to four grad assistants (starting August 1st).

I am interested to see who the others will be. Sorry, i can't answer your original question.

How many GA's are allowed? I am pretty sure I saw Terrell Golden still there and I know Elijah Robinson is working with the team. I don't think Kavanaugh counts as a GA, but for some reason I thought we were only allowed two but I know we have atleast three.

Are you sure it was Zak standing next to BOB calling in plays? I would assume that he would be working defense, not the offense.

I believe, starting this year, teams can have four.

It was stated on FOS that one of the guys originally hired on the S&C program, Steve Williams, would be taking a GA instead.

  • No, not 100% sure... I assumed he'd be helping D too, since he was a safety and played for Roof. I am about 99% sure it wasnt Golden though, so unless it was another, younger guy the same build, etc as Etheridge, I am pretty sure it was him... when KiJana was on the field, interviewing BOB as he was sending in plays, you could get a pretty good look at him.

I was at the game (first row, behind the defense on the 30) andI wondered who was working with BOB also. IIRC, there was talk that Golden was done after spring, so I was shocked to see him having such a big role.

However, I assumed it was Golden, but I couldn't remember what he looked like and it was to far for me to confirm. I will try to check out the replay, I haven't watched the replay, yet.

  • I just saw Golden at Joe's memorial, and I am about 99% sure it wasnt him... that's what I assumed at first too, it makes sense... maybe they just want to the GA's experience with everything... if he background is Defense, maybe they want to switch it up and expose him to offense more, so he is better well rounded.

  • True, plus it isn't uncommon for players to switch sides when they become GAs/early in their coaching career. I know BOB did it. I definitely can't wait for an update once the 4 GAs become official.

In fact, many coaches try to hire GAs for the opposite side of the ball unless they have extensive coaching at a lower level. This helpes them diversify their portfolio and gives them a different view of the game. Just like a lot of guys are hired for positions they did not play or directl coached in their early years.

  • I'm almost positive Golden was in the booth with some of the coaches.

    Looks like it wasn't Zac.

    TIFWIW...
According to BSD, He doesn't start to fall. Plus, Golden and Robinson will be back in the fall, also. This, would have put us over the two allowed until August 1.

Also, according to AL.com, they make it sound like he will be a following Roof as a defensive GA.

According to the B/W program, they have Golden listed as a GA, Elijah Robinson as a Administrative Assistant
Bill Kavanaugh as a assistant recruiting coordinator, Dave Roberson GA coach and Rich Yaner also as a GA coach.
    No lisitng for Zak Etheridge.

  • Yeah, I "tweeted" Zak, and he said it was not him next to Coach O... but didnt say who it was... still, really dont think i was Golden, but maybe it was...

  • Looking at pictures of Golden, I think it was definitely him. At first I thought it was Etheridge.

This pic looked like the guy standing next to OB

Edit: Actually, I still dont know. I still think it does not look much like the guy standing on the sidelines.

You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game, life or football-the margin for error is so small. -Pacino

To me it looks a lot like its Steve Williams, the strength coach that came with Fitz2 from USCe

    Correct.

  • 100% positive it was not Golden - based on the picture above, it was Williams.

    PSUlionbacker

  • His job on Saturday was pretty easy for a Harvard guy. He helped coached defensive backs at USCe as a GA. Looks like we hired him as a S&C GA, but is he still able to coach during practices?
