2015 Big Man Delaney Hears From PSU

2015 PF Tim Delaney has six offers so far, with a number of big programs interested in the sophomore big man.

  • Joe and Jon Crispin's home town.... should be a couple of good ambassadors for Delaney.

Delaney reminds me of a Wisconsin big man--he's big and can rebound but he can step out and hit mid-range jumpers and three pointers. Impressive.

I couldn't agree with you more. The question is will we be able to keep on him, and make good impressions. We have never been able to land a solid big man with his capabilities and potential. It sure would be nice to have a decent low post game to compliment our outside shooters.

  • With that headline, I was hoping this article was about PSU giving Jim Delaney an earful!

Yea, it's still very early in the process for a 2015 kid, but Chambers is on the rise and he and his staff are making in-roads for PSU in all of the Jersey/Philly/DC areas. Unless he really blows up to be a top 50 kid (possible but I just don't know), we'll have a shot--especially if we have a real nice year next year with Tim back, as everyone expects. There will be a lot of positive buzz about Penn State heading into Delaney's final recruiting stretch and that will help too. Finally, being from Pitman and have at least some prior connection to Penn State won't hurt either.

It's early, but I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.

  • Not so sure that Jon Crispin will be much of a help.

Jon still loves Penn State. Having known him well while at PSU and having spoken with him several times since he left (both while at UCLA and after), I can tell you that Jon doesn't hate PSU and he didn't transfer because he hated PSU. Now, his feeling for Jerry Dunn, I'll leave those for someone else to tell.

Great to hear Jon doesn't hate PSU.

Back in those days I thought we may be on our way but losing out on Gerry McNamara and Jerry Dunn's relatiohship with players and we've never really recovered from that. Even in the Dechellis years it seemed someone transferred every year. I hope that trend stops.

    1. I hope we're at the point with Pat that the only transfers will be mutually-beneficial transfers, agreed upon by coach and player.

    2. Jon never hated PSU.

    3. Many of the players did not like playing for Jerry during his time as HC. Everyone that I know thought he was a great person and a nice guy, but not HC material when it came to practice, game management, bench management and x's and o's. This, in my opinion, was a big factor in guys leaving (e.g. Stephenson, Grays, Jon Crispin, Chamblis, etc.), but I'm not sure I could say for sure it's the only/sole reason.

    4. Who knows if Gerry McNamara would have really chosen PSU or not, but as the recruiting story goes Gerry was obviously very high on PSU, in large part because of the offensive freedom that Jerry gave Joe Crispin. However, Gerry cooled on PSU because of the the lack of commitment to, and contract uncertainty, for Jerry Dunn. Now, I'm not saying Gerry would have ultimately chosen PSU over Syracuse if Jerry had received a contract extension, but I think the uncertainty ended the game.

I remember the contract extension delay that "reportedky" affect McNamara's decision.

My wife is an Orange (don't down vote me for that :)) so losing out on him was bittersweet.

The transfers always hurt and seemed to continue after Dunn was gone.

Plus, it does seem that we always have a key injury... Earl, Claxton, Stephens, Frazier...
