2012 Quick hitters - 1/27

  • These are things I've posted on the Twitter account over the last day or so, but since some of you said you don't have the Twitter, I figure I'll just post them here every few days or so if I have the content to do so. As you can see, a lot of these tidbits don't need their own thread and most of the PSU-centric ones have already been posted here.

    - Maryland, BC and VirginiaTech were by to see Ken Ekanem today. The Hokies just offered.

    - Duke, Rutgers and Syracuse have dropped by Rochester (N.Y.) Gates Chili this month to see Jr. WR Marcus McGill. No offers yet.

    - South Jersey linebacker Dillon Lucas committed to play at Villanova last week. Tackling machine had over 350 career tackles.

    - Boyertown (Pa.) offensive lineman Chris Muller has picked up offers from Boston College, Temple and Virginia this week.

    - Cincinnati, PSU and Rutgers have been through North Bergen to check on Vin Ascolese in the last few weeks.

    - Maryland WR/DB Ian Thomas was verbally offered by #PennState on Tuesday, adding to offers from UConn, BC, UMd, Pitt and Rutgers.

    - Penn State dropped in the other day on Jersey DT Tyrell Smith. #BC, #UConn, #Rutgers, #Wisconsin have all been through as well

    - Tyrone (Pa.) offensive lineman Jared Templeton committed to William and Mary this weekend. Gritty, played as a Sr. with torn ACL/MCL.

    - Bob Fraser from Rutgers dropped in on Jr. Ath. Shayne Jones at Somerville (N.J.) Immaculata today.

    - Purdue recently dropped in on Philadelphia (Pa.) George Washington DB Nate Smith, and he thinks the Boilermakers will offer soon.

    - BC has been by DeMatha to see DE Brent Wilkerson, GeorgiaTech and NCState are expected in tomorrow. BCS offers from Rutgers and UVA

    - PSU assistant Bill Kenney dropped in on Camren Williams and Armani Reeves at Catholic Memorial in Mass. on Tuesday.

    - 12 offers claimed by Jersey Jr. Kaiwan Lewis. BC, UCF and N'Western visited this week, said Bama, Clemson, S.Car and Florida showing interest

  • Im surprised we havent offered K.Lewis yet. He's a very good player and a GREAT kid. Plus, he's very high on PSU. I would think we'd offer very soon.

  • Talentwise he's very, very good. I think they may be a little worried because he's a bit of a tweener. He's listed at 6-2 but that may be generous. Would like to see him hit a growth spurt and end up around 6-3, 6-4 as a defensive end.

Do you think Sean, if Lewis stays around 6-2, he could be a LB or isn't he fast enough for that postion? Is this a class where the coaches are going to go strong in the beginning unlike this past class?

  • I have concerns about him playing off the line of scrimmage. He's essentially a standup defensive end in high school and I think his skill set is best suited for defensive end. He's an everything moving forward guy, doesn't do a lot of instinctive reads and though he's thicker, reminds me of a Bani Gbadyu.

    Here is his junior film.

  • Kid looks like a player. Sean, what are the chances of PSU offering and having a shot at this kid?

  • Kid is a player. Don't misinterpret my comment to mean that I don't like the kid, I think he's got great potential.

He's actually had a long relationship with Penn State and I wouldn't be surprised to see him get an offer. If they offer, they'll have a decent shot at him, as good as any northern school. I still see him looking south to see what his options are down there, I believe he likes South Carolina a lot.

  • Another notable tweet from today:

North Carolina and Buffalo are the most recent additions to N.Y. OL/DL Jarron Jones' offer list. Penn State will drop by this afternoon.

  • I would have to think J.Jones is a lock for an offer.

As far as Lewis goes, I agree that a slight growth spurt would help. But I could see him as a very comparable athlete/player to Brandon Graham...the kind of player who could make an impact as a tweener in a 4-3 system.
