  • I don't think the red sox players are really giving him a chance or any support.

To me his comments weren't that bad and he explained them well. Youklis and Pedroia have been around long enough to know how the media can twist questions and comments around. The report by schilling before the season started about how bobby lost the team speaks volumes to the type of character they really have in Boston. If those players gave a damn about baseball or their manager they wouldn't have allowed all the BS that happened last year.

Bobby V will be out of a job and those guys never gave him a chance.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

And they never should have. He's awful.

  • Big name managers dont work in big markets.. I think in professional sports in general its extremly important to have strong team leadership..If there isnt a guy on a team who commands others respect and isnt afraid to tell them when they are acting stupid then the team will easily get lost..

Sounds reasonable ... let's allow our own ego's get in the way of progress.

They get paid to do a job, if you want to mope and whine please leave now. Otherwise swallow some 'pride' and buy in.

If they are cool with being miserable that is their choice. Shame to see guys piss it all away.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

Boston's problem, IMO, is that the "leaders" haven't bought in so the team as a whole doesn't have clear direction.

If the leaders buy in that team could win 100 games.

The power struggle in this situation is confusing to me since it's players and a coach. Upper management must not be doing Bobby V any favors either or something else happened before the spring or during spring training that nobody is talking about.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

I was more talking about the joke of a hiring process that the Red Sox conducted. The disrespectful way Bobby V conducts himself in every job he's ever had. And his poor track record as a manager. I'd be pissed if I was a Sawx fan and a player.

That said, players do need to play their asses off. Its still their job and even if they don't care for him they should care for their teammates

You have to understand that there is very little loyalty in Boston.. Its a tradition dating back to Babe Ruth.. Ownership doesnt value winning the same way the Yankees do.. The fans arent loyal at all to their players, they turned on Nomar, they turned on Manny, they turned on Johnny Damon, they have Big Papi on a short leash.. Loyalty doesnt exist in Beantown.. Its part of the culture there, its much deeper than just players atitudes and managers egos..

Who are the leaders? Varitek is gone, pedroia is a great player but not a leader, same with Youk.. Papi isnt a leader.. There arent any leaders there.. Their world series teams had good leadership.. 04 had, Damon, Millar, Tek, Schilling, those guys set a tone, they dont have anyone on the team that plays that role..

    JTNITTANY

  • Speaking of leaders, Derek Jeter is absolutly murdering shit right now..

  • The problem is, if I remember this correctly, Bobby isn't the GM's guy. He interviewed guys he wanted more and made much more sense as baseball men. And then someone in ownership wanted him to interview Bobby V and bam he's hired. Because he had a name, was on ESPN, and loudly lobbied for his job on it.

Therefore the ownership deserves to fail. And I hope they do.

I think Youk is supposed to be one as is Ortiz.

I just think they have poor leaders (yes extended to front office) and they have leaders who don't understand how to lead.

If you're a star player, like it or not, you are expected to be a leader unless there is another guy there that has that role.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

Yea, I was quoting you to spring board into my comment.

It wasn't directed to you, just the conversation in general.

I did not know about the hiring process.

I think Ortiz could have been that guy, but not at this point in his career.. I dont think upper management ever backed him up in that sense and gave him the support to do that.. Terrible management and terrible ownership..

like i said i'm not a big baseball fan really any body but the yankees ESPN is Soooo bias when it comes to the yankees an red sox ... it's a joke oh well No wonder i 'm not much of a fan.

They put on games for ratings. Yanks, Sox and Phils get most of the airtime on ESPN cause they bring the best ratings. Here's the top 5 from 2011 by average local game audience. The Yanks have the strongest national appeal as well, so the ratings on ESPN are even further inflated for national games I'm sure.

New York Yankees YES 319,000 (-5.3%)
    Philadelphia CSN 276,000 (+16.0%)
    Boston NESN 192,000 (+34.3%)
New York Mets SportsNet NY 163,000 (-19.3%)
San Francisco CSN Bay Area 127,000 (+23.3%)

  • Also, can we take off the VIP posts. I'm sure it was an accident, but one VIP post starts a chain reaction by accident.

I know. Every response to a VIP post is automatically VIP, so it's a chain reaction. I didn't notice and had to edit my post.
