indeed it is. They have a few A guys but they are minimum 4 years away from MLB.

Yep, the only bright spot in the system is low to high a.

trevor may is pretty good, jesse biddle is on the rise, and sebastian valle is a really good catching prospect (higher ceiling than chooch). Also there are a lot of filler prospects that are pitching really well that scouts say dont translate to the majors (petibone, rodriguez, etc.).

Raul Ibanez hits his 5th homer. Well on his way to at least 20.

Haha we'll see. He's good for about an 80 game slump every season...

About losing Raul? Far from it. I'd bet a large some he doesn't touch 20.

    He's a lefty in Yankee Stadium...of course he'll hit 20 HR's but that's about all you'll get.

  • To address the Phillies' issues -

This season is a regression to the mean for this team. They outplayed their peripherals last year by a large margin and the pitching stayed remarkably healthy (especially the bullpen). The awful contracts to players past their prime are finally catching up to them and the farm system is so devoid of upper level talent thanks to o many deadline deals. The only way their success is sustainable is to continue to increase the payroll every year. That is just not possible. Ownership has made their bed and now they will have to sleep in it. Instead of making smart, forwardthinking moves to stay competitive they were afraid to make the fans unhappy by letting any player move on. I believe that is why they thought they had to sign Howard. The egg is on their face now because as great as Philly fans are they will not show up to watch a loser.

exactly why I predicted he would get to 20 again this season.

  • I can't stand to watch the Phillies anymore and we're only 1 month into the season. They continue to blow leads and get lackadaisical on offense after they score a few runs. So frustrating!!!........

  • Sorry about JHam Lang, he's pretty good.

Take your pick, who has more homers this month, Hamilton or the Phillies?

Yea, he and the rangers are crazy good. They have won enough or been dicks so I'll root for them come playoff time.

    Damn, well the O's tried.

If winning was easy even losers would do it.

Followed by June Cy Young and a October disappointment?

  • One thing about Texas ... They made it twice in a row and people didn't expect them to.

Beside having cliff lee for a short time they have done it without a stud ace.

Their lineup is almost as good as that Cleveland team from the mid 90's.

Jim Thome is the man. From the same home town as my old man (Peoria is not where he grew up, just born) and same HS, just a couple years after. Met him a couple times actually as some of the Firefighters in town went to school with him. Honestly one of the most generous and likable people I have ever met. Great guy.

Anyways, we aren't hating on the Rangers, just Texas Lion. biggrin

Thome was so great in Philadelphia when he came. Just an all around good guy of the game. Wish he still had the talent and could contribute. I'd like to see him as a Phillies hitting coach sooner than later.

I think he comes back home or goes to the Indians. He loved Cleveland, and still does. I know one of his big things was he always wanted to play for the Cubs and never got the chance. Obviously he loved Philly too, thus why he's back. He actually wasn't too bad the last couple years in his smaller role. Unfortunately in Philly its hard to arrange the roster that way for a guy who really can't play D.

Yep, and tough for the big fella to get in a hitting groove when he's gotta be a pinch hitter every few days. I think Philly has a chance if Charlie is here, just because of how much he loves Charlie.

But for the Phillies' sake, I hope Charlie isn't here much longer...

    Agree 100%.

Btw I almost bought a Phillies jersey of Thome back in the day. Could you imagine that? Me with a Phillies jersey. Ha! I hated the city and their fans then too, which is all that stopped me.
