    • Lots of 2014 kids, more prospects than I was expecting. Nice to see, especially a few kids from Ohio and NJ.

    • Sorry if I missed this but who is Tanner Hartman? Preferred walk on?

No, former Maryland commit (OL). He's about 6'4", 250 pounds but looked decent on film. Low 3* guy. We offered and he flipped to us.

    • The one and only upside of the sanctions will be the overall improvement in the quality of walkons that we will be bringing in. There are a ton of kids all across PA who are excellent football players, but at 16-17 years old might not be developed physically or coached up enough to garner a scholarship offer from a school the caliber of PSU.

In the past the majority of theses prospects(think Bryton Barr last season) would take offers to smaller BCS, 1AA, and even D2 Schools. Now with the 65 restriction in place many of these kids will have an opportunity to contribute on special teams, compete to be on the 3 deep, and fight for a shot at a scholarship.

Kids will look at players like Mike Farrell, Derek Day, Jake Fagano, Matt Lehman, and obviously Matt Mcgloin and say why not me? I live in NEPA and see a good bit of football. There are plenty of players up here who are great athletes but lack development You get them with Fitz for 2 years, and around coaches like Mac, LJ, Vandy, and BOB and you will get some quality football players.

    • Fitz will definitely be our best friend over the next few years.

Recruiting will get better every year. Next year should be decent with the following being "good".

Mike Farrell was not a walk-on. You should add Jesse Della Valle and he is the classic example of your point. He could have went to a smaller school but he wanted to play at Penn State. He thought he would regret it later on if he didn't try to earn PT at Penn State. More kids will feel the same way as the opportunity is there.

    • Awfully early..with most of the kids, but does anyone know who we should be keeping an eye on early..any potential studs..Sean - anyone???

    • Lezzer has been absolutely lighting it up this year so far, and Matsko has been nagged with an injury that cost him a couple games early on. As for the others on that list, I haven't seen any others.

I agree with everything you say, but the problem is that some of those kids cannot afford PSU without a Scholarship. I remember Barr's father (or at least someone claiming to be him) posting that family circumstances kept Bryton from walking on at PSU versus being on scholarship at a lower level. It will be key to finding kids that can pay (for school) and play (with development at this level).

I always make a point to upvote the "first!" post.

    • Sean...what level are the 2014 kids? Will most of them end up with regional D1 offers?

    • Nice to see three kids from the area I grew up in (Fielder - Warrior Run, Smith - Lewisburg, Wiand - Mifflinburg) on this list. When I was in high school in the late 80's/early 90's, our area seldom had kids good enough to get serious attention from big time D1 programs. I guess times have changed. Or Penn State has lowered its expectations because of the sanctions.

    • Sean Corcoran - LS - Bourbonnais (Ill.) Bishop McNamara

is coming to PSU next year as a preferred run-on, according to Josh Moyer at the ESPN Nitanny Nation blog.
