Penn State nabs 2013 PG

Penn State has landed its first commitment for the class of 2013, as in-state guard Geno Thorpe has chosen the Nittany Lions.

Thorpe confirmed early Tuesday morning he will be State College bound. The 6-foot-3 guard had offers from Wisconsin and Kansas State, among others, but felt Penn State was the place for him.

“I chose Penn State because I believe in Pat Chambers and the coaching staff,” said Thorpe on Tuesday. “He is a great coach and believe me when I say he is going to turn this program around.”

Thorpe will be in State College this weekend to visit.

Lions247.com followed up with Thorpe last month following a visit to Happy Valley. The visit changed his outlook on the direction of the Penn State program.

“I talked with Coach Chambers a lot about a lot of attitude, trying to change the Penn State basketball program around into a high pop program, and he said I would be a great fit for Penn State," Thorpe said after a visit in early October. "The campus is beautiful. It’s huge, basically it is its own city."
