Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien announced Matt McGloin will be the starting quarterback at the start of the 2012 season. O’Brien made the announcement prior to the start of the Coaches Vs. Cancer Golf Tournament.
“He was the most consistent guy throughout the spring,” O’Brien said. “He has good command of the offense at this point. He’s a tough kid, a competitive kid and has shown good leadership qualities.”
O'Brien also explained his reasoning on why to name a starter prior to the start of fall camp.
"When you go into training camp you got to make sure that one guy is getting the bulk of the reps," he said. "You don't have time to give three guys equal reps."
