Penn State picked up a commitment on Saturday from Richland (N.J.) St. Augustine Prep lineman Austin Johnson.
"I've just been going to a lot of camps lately, and Penn State was my dream school," he said. " Once they put [the offer] out there, actually they had no idea I was coming to camp but I was supposed to contact a coach but I didn't. They offered me and I took it the day of, I knew that's where I wanted to go. It's my dream school. I love it."
The Nittany Lions are recruiting the 6-foot-4, 277-pound Johnson as a defensive tackle. Johnson worked at the camp with assistant coach Larry Johnson.
"I was with him last year when I went to the four day camp," he said. "He just talked to me before the offer came about. I knew him before, we were close, he liked me a lot and I liked him as a coach, that's why I want to go to Penn State."
Johnson said that he also had offers from Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse, Villanova and Tulane.

Let me make myself clear with this, and I think I speak for some others.
It's not that these kids aren't talented and possibly worthy of an offer...it's the fact that we could've waited to offer later in the process and still had a good shot at both. There was NO REASON to rush the offer - except for wanting to get recruiting over and done with as tdiddy and Hamilton have mentioned.
Very frustrating, and one of the biggest complaints I have with this staff.
