White picks Penn State

Millville (N.J.) defensive tackle Antoine White picked up an offer from Penn State just nine days ago, and after an unofficial visit to Happy Valley on Saturday he felt that he did not have to wait any longer to end his recruitment.

White committed to the Nittany Lions on Monday afternoon.

"I just didn't feel that anywhere else could offer me the bundle that Penn State can, and it's only four hours away," White told Lions247 on Sunday evening. "The football atmosphere, the academics, my major Criminal Justice, a defensive line coach with the background of Coach J, a coaching staff that I felt comfortable with and the chance to come in there and contribute on the team early on.

"So just that bundle of everything they have for me, I just didn't feel that there was another place that could offer me what they can offer me. Also with it being just four hours away, it just completes the package deal."

The 6-foot-3, 268-pound rising senior committed to the Nittany Lions over scholarship offers from Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Michigan State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Vanderbilt and others.

The three-star prospect said that he knew he would be a Nittany Lion when he left campus on Saturday.

"When I got to sit down to Coach Johnson for about an hour, I would say at that moment with Coach Johnson I knew I wanted to be there," said White. "The only thing stopping me, I would say, was that it wouldn't be fair to my parents that I wouldn't talk to them about it before I did it.

"As I was talking to Coach Johnson, I was just feeding off of that. He's the type of coach who talks and you just want him to keep giving you more. You never get bored of what he has to say.

"I told my parents when I got into the car, 'Mom, I want to go here.' This is where I want to continue my career and this is where I want to be for the next four years. They felt the exact same way, they just wanted to hear it out of my mouth."

A three-star prospect, White carries a rating of 87 from 247Sports. He is the No. 42 defensive tackle nationally and the No. 16 prospect in the state of New Jersey.

White was a first team All-South Jersey selection as a junior. He finished the 2012 season with 80 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, six sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
